We first crossed paths while working at Horizon Air being based in Spokane, WA—Evan as a First Officer starting in July 2017, and Maddie as a Flight Attendant who joined in March 2018. Spokane is a small base, so we would work together frequently and became work friends.

In January 2021, we found ourselves on a trip together and decided to grab coffee during one of our layovers. After the trip, Maddie invited Evan to go skiing with a group of friends. Since Evan is always up for a day on the slopes, he happily said yes. What started as a fun day on the mountain quickly turned into more.

A few more ski trips, brewery visits, and swing dances later, Maddie invited Evan for a ski trip to Bend, Oregon, a place that soon became one of our favorite spots to visit—and one we’re excited to share with all of you!

In March 2021 (we honestly can’t remember the exact date), we officially started dating. One night while relaxing at home, Evan asked Maddie to be his girlfriend. She said yes—but then, just minutes later, changed her mind because she didn’t want to put a label on things. This created a personal best for the shortest relationship Evan had ever been in! Fortunately, after about 30 minutes, Maddie came around and asked Evan to make it official. And so, we began our journey together as a couple.

Fast forward to July 13, 2024—during one of our trips to central Oregon. We planned a morning hike followed by an afternoon of paddle boarding. After a little detour in Sisters, Oregon, due to the 49th Annual Quilters Show, we finally made it to Chush Falls. At the base of the falls, Evan pulled out a ring from his hiking pack, got down on one knee, and asked Maddie to be his wife. She said yes (though she did an extra thousand steps that day, jumping and running in place with excitement).

From our first coffee to our engagement, we’ve built a relationship full of laughter, support, and lots of adventure. We can’t wait to take the next step and begin the rest of our story together as husband and wife. We’re so excited to share this special day with you!
